Brisbane Skip Bins

How to sort your domestic waste?

As the sun comes shining out and the winter jackets are back to the closet, Australia wakes up to the summer and it is time for “Spring Clean”!!!
While we gear to banish the junk and scrap from home, Brisbane Skip Bin Hire offers some handy tips on segregating your domestic waste to minimise clumsiness and cost and to aid efficient recycling.
Clearing the junk in the home is a much hated job but the bigger problem is disposing it in greener way. Here are some simple guidelines to sort out the junk:
Green Bin:
This bin is removed each week and is used to dispose most kitchen and garden wastes (Bio-degradable) which can be turned into compost. Items include:
·        Bread, pasta, grains and other cooked food
·        Spoilt or unwanted vegetables and fruits
·        Meat, fish including bones and skin
·        Small twigs, flowers, leaves and garden waste
·        Soiled tissues and paper
Do not dispose:
·        Plastic bags and other items
·        Construction wastes including cement, soil, bricks
·        Plant pots and ceramics
·        Painted wooden articles
Handling tip:
Please line the bin in your home with paper or bin bags to avoid soiling it. Try disposing the meat and fish wastes immediately or freeze meat scraps till collection day to avoid stench and mess.

Yellow Bin:
This bin is emptied alternate fortnights. The waste from this bin is recycled to produce new items. The following items can be placed in the Yellow bin.
·        Plastic containers except plastic bags and cling films
·        Newspapers and magazines
·        Tetra packs and cardboard containers
·        Glass bottles and containers
·        Aluminium and tin cans
Do not place:
·        Soft plastic items like plastic bags and cling films
·        Non- recyclable plastics
·        Hazardous waste including chemical and medical wastes
·        Pots and ceramics
·        Foam and glass item like mirror, spectacles and light bulbs
Handling tip:
Please rinse cans and bottled before disposing for the safety and cleanliness of the recycling staff since some items are hand sorted. Please do not crush the tin cans and try packing the small bits of paper in a cereal box or plastic container. You can also improve this process by purchasing recyclable products to control greenhouse gas emissions.
